ACHIEVING GENDER EQUITY IN EDUCATION IN NIGERIA VIA CURRICULUM IMPLEMENTATION
Abstract
This paper examines the concepts of curriculum implementation and gender. It identified and discussed different practices in which gender gaps are experienced. These include cultural practices, family and classroom including textbooks illustrations. Measures to improve on observed adverse conditions identified and discussed include curriculum review, awareness creation, effective classroom instruction, equal treatment of males and females, effective evaluation, recruitment of gender-sensitive-teacher-counsellor and creation of effective learning environment. It is recommended, among others, that curriculum and textbooks should be reviewed from time to time to include gender issues; teachers create and should maintain friendly classroom environments to reduce drop-out rate of female students, and, school personnel should be highly sensitized on gender issues Read More ...
Formulating a military doctrine for humanistic approaches in African conflicts
Abstract
The This article is framed within the urgent need for African military forces to effectively address the complexities of leading and participating in multinational military operations across the continent. The central research question that shapes this study is: What should the military doctrine for African forces entail in order to ensure seamless collaboration within multinational operations while safeguarding African interests? The article seeks to explore the formulation of a military doctrine that aligns with African interests while embracing the realities of multinational interventions. To achieve this, the study draws on theoretical insights into military doctrines, multinational military operations, and humanistic values intrinsic to African societies, providing a comprehensive framework to support the argument. By examining pre-colonial African military traditions, the humanistic and collaborative nature of contemporary military engagements, and the quest for a doctrine rooted in Africa's values, the research uncovers several critical findings. One of the primary conclusions is that Africa has developed a substantial body of indigenous military knowledge over centuries. This heritage offers a solid foundation for formulating an endogenous military doctrine, specifically designed to serve the needs of African people. Such a doctrine would be underpinned by key principles, including people centredness, adaptability, collective responsibility, affordability, and institutionalization, ensuring that African humanistic values and continental policies are at the heart of strategic decision-making and operational execution. The article suggests that an African-focused military doctrine, built on these foundational principles, could significantly enhance the effectiveness of African forces in multinational contexts while ensuring that interventions remain aligned with the continent's humanistic values. In light of these findings, several practical recommendations are offered for the development and institutionalization of this doctrine. Read More ...
Strategic Political Modeling in Practice: Enhancing Efficiency in the Russian Political Arena
Abstract
This research explores the theoretical framework of strategic modeling within the political landscape. The term "political landscape" is examined through the lenses of classical economic theory, military strategy, and political philosophy. The analysis divides this concept into two interconnected dimensions: the zone of political competition and the domain of effective governance. Through a case study of contemporary political dynamics in Russia, the authors conclude that strategic modeling presents a valuable approach to optimizing the modern political process. It facilitates the structuring of power distribution mechanisms, stabilizes actor relationship dynamics, and boosts the efficiency of frictional engagements in political administration. Read More ...
Abstract
This study assessed the quality of selected hand dug wells in Affisere quarter of Ughelli town, Delta State, Nigeria using Water Quality Index (WQI). Eight wells were randomly selected in Affisere quarter of Ughelli North Local Government Areal and were tested for nine (9) parameters of National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) using standard analytical procedures. WQI results indicated that the quality of the selected well water samples were medium except for sample 4 that was extremely bad. The findings also revealed that all the samples except samples 3, 4 and 6 had high coliform levels (about 91 coliform/100cm3). This was an indication of faecal contamination substantiating the proximity of some of the wells to septic systems. The nitrate levels in all the samples exceeded the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) of WHO, EPA, APHA and the Nigerian Drinking Water Standards. Based on the results obtained, the quality of the well water samples was therefore not suitable for human consumption without adequate treatment. Regular monitoring of groundwater quality, abolishment of unhealthy waste disposal practices and introduction of modern techniques is highly recommended Read More ...
Groundwater Pollution in a Rural Tropical Setting (Abbi, Ndokwa West, Nigeria)
Abstract
Groundwater constitutes one of major source of water supply especially in most rural communities in Nigeria, in addition to rainwater and surface water bodies. For this reason, there has been a consistent demand for groundwater through the construction of hand dug wells. In spite of this experience, however, there has been an increased concern as to the safety of groundwater for human consumption, following reported cases of the occurrence of heavy metals and several bacteria in groundwater which by nature are injurious to human health. This study in response to this, examined the physico-chemical properties, in groundwater samples taken from three wells locations in Abbi Ndokwa West region of Delta State. Heavy metals such as Iron (Fe), Zinc (Zn), Copper (Cu), Cadmium (Cd), Lead (Pb), Manganese (Mn), and Magnesium (Mg), were analyzed. Result showed that there were heavy occurrences of Zinc and Copper from the sample taken from wells. The levels of heavy metals found in the well samples were outside the limits specified by World Health Organization (WHO). The implications of the result for the management and use of groundwater in the study area were identified and discussed and recommendations preferred that we evaluate the toxic and logical significance of commonly used water for drinking Read More ...
Abstract
This paper examines the concepts of Constitutional Force Majeure and Interregnum in the context of Nigeria's political and legal landscape. It explores the historical and contemporary applications of these doctrines, including their implications for human rights, the rule of law, and democratic governance. Through a critical analysis of case law, statutes, and political events, the paper reveals the complexities and challenges of navigating extraordinary crises in a democratic setting. The research highlights the tensions between national security, individual liberties, and the pursuit of political stability, and argues for a balanced approach that safeguards human rights and promotes democratic consolidation. The findings contribute to ongoing debates about constitutionalism, political transitions, and the role of the judiciary in times of crisis. By examining the intersection of constitutional force majeure and interregnum in Nigeria, scholars and policymakers can gain valuable insights into how the country responds to legal challenges, political transitions, and constitutional crises. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of these concepts, offering a nuanced understanding of their implications for governance, rule of law, and democratic processes in Nigeria.
